Orotorio di Santa Cita
This building appears unassuming from the exterior, tucked away on an ordinary and somewhat ugly side street. However, once you step inside, it transforms into some kind of a pastry chef's dreamland!
The astounding stucco interior of the Oratorio di Santa Cita was crafted by the then-unknown local artist Giacomo Serpotta. Serpotta innovatively pioneered a new method of stucco creation by grinding marble into a fine dust and blending it with plaster, resulting in a surface that gleams like carved marble.
This masterpiece stands as a true pinnacle of Sicilian Baroque, showcasing both the artistic brilliance of Serpotta and the high water mark of this distinctive architectural style.
