Roscioli has been the buzz of all the modern Rome documentaries I’ve watched from the fantastic BBC Rome Unpacked to the stylish Stanley Tucci series. Not only that but most of my guidebooks too insist on a table at Roscioli (though two of my guidebooks, I’m proud to say, are from 1954 and 1971 —probably before Roscioli’s parents were born). When a place is that beloved I get suspicious, however after a few attempts of not getting a table I struck on the rainiest early lunch of the week. ⁣

The praise is deserved! I especially appreciated there was a whole section of the menu devoted to high grade anchovies, which was a real education for me, I ordered  ones with two butters; Yuzu and Vanilla, coincidentally the priciest ones on offer but I had to find out! And yes they were sublime, to all my anchovy enthusiasts out there I submit a screenshot of the anchovy menu. ⁣

Carbonara, which is on offer in every restaurant I’ve been to, however Roscioli’s has a reputation as being one of the better in the city, a masterclass in Carbonara. so I held out ordering Carbonara until I could get a table at Roscioli, and yes, it is as good as everyone says.

My only one regret is not having enough appetite for his charcuterie, nearly every table around me had one and it looked incredible. ⁣
