On Ponte Cavour facing Ponte Margherita
Every time I cross the Tiber I snap a picture then when I look at it later it doesn’t evoke anything. I’ve been over 8 of Romes 13 bridges and none of my pictures really were very good.
Until this morning. Crossing Ponte Cavour but looking at Ponte Margherita, yes the Margherita you are thinking about, the same Queen Margherita who had the pizza named in her honor. Today Ponte Margherita was obscured by fog low on the waters surface.
And it was a cold morning. It occurred to me that whenever I think of the ancient Romans I think of them in their togas and sandals with the hot sun all around them. I never think of them in a cold environment like this morning or how it will get in the next few months. And yet when I think of the Middle Ages era Romans I think of them in shrouded fog, damp and cold, never do I picture them on hot sunny days. Yet here all around these two bridges they all lived.
