The largest Ficus macrophylla tree in Europe

Piazza Marina

Piazza Marina is a quaint little park on the north end of the historic district, once a sight of gruesome Spanish Inquisition trials and in the Middle Ages it was but a swamp. However now it’s better known for having the largest Banyan tree (Ficus macrophylla) in all of Europe. As well as these funny little lamp posts that look like they have feet and will any moment now leap off their bases and pitter away.
