Saint Agatha (231-251) repelled the advances of the Roman prefect Quintianus. He persisted and she resisted and this led to her arrest and extreme torture - the amputation of her breasts - and eventual death. β£β£
The people of Sicily remember Saint Agatha and honor a young girl standing up for herself and repelling the unwanted advances of a man of power by making these little cakes. This says a lot about the Sicilian character. Though they may lose every battle they stick up for what is right. β£
