Antica Salumeria
Antica Salumeria is a culinary gem nestled in the heart of Piazza della Rotonda looking the Fontana del Pantheon square in the face.
Upon entering Antica Salumeria, you are greeted by an ambiance that evokes a sense of timeless charm. The shelves are adorned with an enticing assortment of cured meats, artisanal cheeses, and carefully selected delicacies. The air is filled with tantalizing aromas, cheeses and cured meats fill your nose, beckoning you. On one of my visits they had just hung a giant mortadella in the doorway, you can see it in the picture, it’s the size of a punching bag, you had to swerve around it to enter the store. I read somewhere that Antica Salumeria has been on this spot since the mid 1500’s.
A great place to get pizza farcita, which we tend to call focaccia, but in Rome what you get is a rectangle of very thin and very crisp focaccia bread sliced lengthwise in half and filled with whatever you want, I ordered the mortadella and then sat on the steps of the fountain to enjoy it.
I like the chartreuse glow at night.
